The accident took place around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 132 Kensington Lane in Poughkeepsie, said Arlington Fire District Deputy Chief Bill Steenbergh.
When Arlington firefighters and EMTs arrived on the scene they found the injured man on the frozen ground in "quite a bit of pain," said Steenbergh.
Responding crews immediately worked to stabilize the man until a Mobil Life helicopter could arrive at the scene.
"I would say he had substantial injuries, but a significant language barrier kept us from knowing the full extent," said Steenbergh.
The man was flown to Westchester Medical Center, which is a Level 1 Trauma Center.
"We believed after falling on frozen ground from that height that he may need advanced trauma care," he added.
Steenbergh, who will be sworn in as the new fire chief, next month, when Tory Gallante retires, said they did not have the man's current condition.
"Our crews take such pride in their work that many times crews will call to check on the status of a patient."
